Pamela M. Gordon

April 01, 1921 - January 23, 2009

Pamela M. Gordon

Pamela McGuire Gordon

SAVANNAH - Pamela McGuire Gordon, 87, passed away on Friday, January 23, at Candler Hospital with her children at her bedside. She was born on April Fool's Day 1921, in Seven Oaks, Kent, England. She met her husband, Arthur Gordon, in London during World War II, came to the United States in 1946, and moved to Savannah in 1957.

Pam's life was filled with family, travel, volunteer work, and a successful modeling career. She was a member of the Savannah Symphony's Women's Guild and originated the Symphony Champagne Luncheon and Fashion Show. She also started the first gift shop in the old St. Joseph's Hospital and served on the board of the Florence Crittenden Home and Greenbriar Children's Center. She was formerly a member of the Savannah Yacht Club, the Savannah Golf Club, and the Oglethorpe Club.

Pam resided at Savannah Square where she was known for her outgoing personality and her charm. She enjoyed making newcomers feel welcome and being the life of the party. Anyone who met her was unlikely to forget her kindness, generosity and compassion. She loved cats and doted on her three very lucky felines.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arthur. She is survived by her sister Diana Harrison of Kent, England, and by her five children Sherry William Minnich of Lake Toxaway, NC, Leigh Dale Ashman of Savannah, Kinzie Gordon of Sacramento, CA, Dana Tom Lane of Savannah, and McGuire Carolyn Gordon of Modesto, CA; seven grandchildren, Eric and Lindsay Ashman; Chelsea Chen; Brooks, Whitney and Christopher Lane, and Alexandra Gordon; one great-grandchild, Clay Proper. She also is survived by adoptive children Cuong and Tuyet Dinh of Cerritos, CA; Hung and Mai Nguyen of Richmond Hill; and their families.

The funeral will be private. The family will receive friends at a celebration of Pam's life at Savannah Square, #1 Savannah Square Drive, in Riceland Hall, Tuesday, January 27 at 10:30 in the morning. In lieu of flowers the family requests that remembrances be sent to the Chatham-Savannah Humane Society, 7215 Sallie Mood Drive, Savannah, GA 31406.

The family extends special thanks to the ICU nurses at Candler and to Dr. Gifford Lorenz, Dr. Robert Rollings, and Dr. Florin Georgescu.

GUEST BOOK

I was Pamela's hairdresser for several years when she was playing tennis and very active. I always looked forward to pur weekly visits. She shared many great memories with me,which included visits with Walt Disney at his home and seeing the train in his back yard. I have just finished reading Julie Andrews book 'Home'. In Miss Andrews book, she mentions the same train,i thought of Pamela at once...thinking i already knew that! I loved both Pamela and Arther and am greatful for the opportunity to have known the two of them. Savannah has lost a great Lady.

Saddened as I am at her passing, I know how rich, fulfilling and meaningful Pam's life was, and that she will live on in the memories of the many whose lives she touched. Pam added elegance and graciousness to the Savannah Square community, and I feel privileged to have known her even so briefly.

- Jack Golden, Savannah, GA

I met Pam at Marigold where we both had out nails done. We developed a friendship and looked forward to our visits on Thursday mornings. We kidded a lot about my trying so many colors before making a decision and she decided to join me. I am going to miss her so much, she was a classy lady... To her family: You are so lucky to have had her. God bless each of you.
